Although most of the larger cemeteries in northern Colorado have an older section where local pioneers were laid to rest, it’s a cemetery like the one in Timnath that really captures a feeling of the past and it’s passing. Cemeteries, by their nature, are places of memory and forgetfulness. Events such as the Fort Collins Cemetery Stroll that’s taking place this Saturday in the Grandview Cemetery are a way for a community to maintain a collective memory of our pioneer forebears. But in Timnath, there’s almost a sense that the cemetery itself has been forgotten.
All the same, it was a beautiful cemetery in its own way. And despite getting shoes full of prickers and pokey bits, I’m glad I visited.
