On Saturday, February 27, 2016, the Pioneer Association (which is a 110 year old organization started by the Coy family and others) placed a plaque on the childhood home of Hattie McDaniel, an actress who is best known for her role as Mammy in Gone with the Wind, for which she won an Academy Award.
I filmed the proceedings on my wee little camera that I always keep on me in my pocket or my purse… which is how little bits of lint have crept into the camera under the lens where I can’t reach them. Usually this isn’t a problem, but when you’re filming right into the sun (which was also a silly thing for me to do. But I didn’t want to get in the way of the Channel 7 news, which had staked out a place before me) you end up getting sun spots on your image. So… hopefully you can still enjoy this edited version of events from the day.
If you haven’t read the post I wrote on Hattie, I’d recommend you hop over there at some point. She was a really wonderful woman and she maintained her friendships with her Fort Collins friends even after becoming a famous Hollywood actress.
